ID:ITAM_HUMAN DESCRIPTION: RecName: Full=Integrin alpha-M; AltName: Full=CD11 antigen-like family member B; AltName: Full=CR-3 alpha chain; AltName: Full=Cell surface glycoprotein MAC-1 subunit alpha; AltName: Full=Leukocyte adhesion receptor MO1; AltName: Full=Neutrophil adherence receptor; AltName: CD_antigen=CD11b; Flags: Precursor; FUNCTION: Integrin alpha-M/beta-2 is implicated in various adhesive interactions of monocytes, macrophages and granulocytes as well as in mediating the uptake of complement-coated particles. It is identical with CR-3, the receptor for the iC3b fragment of the third complement component. It probably recognizes the R-G-D peptide in C3b. Integrin alpha-M/beta-2 is also a receptor for fibrinogen, factor X and ICAM1. It recognizes P1 and P2 peptides of fibrinogen gamma chain. SUBUNIT: Heterodimer of an alpha and a beta subunit. Alpha-M associates with beta-2. Interacts with JAM3. SUBCELLULAR LOCATION: Membrane; Single-pass type I membrane protein. TISSUE SPECIFICITY: Predominantly expressed in monocytes and granulocytes. DOMAIN: The integrin I-domain (insert) is a VWFA domain. Integrins with I-domains do not undergo protease cleavage. DISEASE: Genetic variations in ITGAM has been associated with susceptibility to systemic lupus erythematosus type 6 (SLEB6) [MIM:609939]. Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic, inflammatory and often febrile multisystemic disorder of connective tissue. It affects principally the skin, joints, kidneys and serosal membranes. It is thought to represent a failure of the regulatory mechanisms of the autoimmune system. SIMILARITY: Belongs to the integrin alpha chain family. SIMILARITY: Contains 7 FG-GAP repeats. SIMILARITY: Contains 1 VWFA domain.
The RNAfold program from the Vienna RNA Package is used to perform the secondary structure predictions and folding calculations. The estimated folding energy is in kcal/mol. The more negative the energy, the more secondary structure the RNA is likely to have.

The pictures above may be empty if there is no ModBase structure for the protein. The ModBase structure frequently covers just a fragment of the protein. You may be asked to log onto ModBase the first time you click on the pictures. It is simplest after logging in to just click on the picture again to get to the specific info on that model.
Orthologous Genes in Other Species
Orthologies between human, mouse, and rat are computed by taking the best BLASTP hit, and filtering out non-syntenic hits. For more distant species reciprocal-best BLASTP hits are used. Note that the absence of an ortholog in the table below may reflect incomplete annotations in the other species rather than a true absence of the orthologous gene.
