Evidence: The transcription factorand candidate tumorsup pressorgene, RUNX3, which mediates apoptosis and cell growth inhibition in gastric epithelial cells, is frequently lost in gastric cancer cells. The physical interaction of RUNX3 and FOXO3 on the promoter of the proapoptotic factor Bim activates transcription of Bim, thereby inducing apoptosis in gastric cancer, suggesting that it may play an important role in tumor suppression in gastric cancer (Yamamura et al., 2006).
